Here are some tips to help avoid early formation of cataracts

  1. Wear sunglasses: Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun can increase the risk of cataract formation. Protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses that block 100% of both UVA and UVB rays when outdoors.
  2. Quit smoking: Smoking is a major risk factor for cataracts, as well as other eye diseases. If you smoke, quitting can help reduce your risk.
  3. Eat a healthy diet: A diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene can help protect against cataract formation. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those with bright colors, such as berries, citrus fruits, and leafy greens.
  4. Manage diabetes: Uncontrolled diabetes can increase the risk of cataracts. Manage your blood sugar levels through proper diet, exercise, and medication as needed.
  5. Limit alcohol consumption: Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of cataracts. Drink in moderation, if at all.
  6. Get regular eye exams: Regular eye exams can help detect cataracts early and monitor their progression. Make sure to see your eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam at least once every two years, or more frequently if recommended.

By following these tips, you can help reduce the risk of cataract formation and promote healthy vision. If you experience any changes in your vision or other symptoms, consult your eye doctor for advice and treatment options.
